Premcar turns 30 in 2026. To celebrate, we’re sharing some of our knowledge. This time, it’s about Design Thinking.
Last week I mentioned Raymond Loewy’s MAYA design principle.
I’ll now touch on Premcar’s specific design approach.
Whether it’s to do with aesthetics or complex mechanical design, there’s always a potential pitfall waiting.
And it’s waiting whether you design toasters, running shoes or cars.
Especially cars.
There’s always the risk the designer will “make it about themselves”, and not the end user.
If a designer overlooks the intended buyer or user, then the product will likely miss its target.
This means fewer sales and lower financial results.
(And brand-related issues and difficult discussions with the client.)
The designer got a dopamine hit while the client got a headache…
All because the designer had blinkers and a lack of empathy.
This is why our engineers use Design Thinking to create cars and other products.
It’s used by the biggest tech companies, the best electronics manufacturers and top global carmakers.
Design Thinking is a problem-solving methodology and mindset that focuses on people’s specific needs.
It creates human-centred solutions with the right innovations.
Which means customers get the products that solve their problems and meet their wants.
Because it’s about them, not us.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
Not in real life, I’m afraid.
Because it’s usually too difficult to focus on the people who really matter.
