1996

Tickford Vehicle Engineering
Begins In Australia

The Premcar journey starts with the 1996 launch of
the Tickford-enhanced EL-based Ford Falcon GT. It
receives critical acclaim, with MOTOR magazine
reporting “it’s the best handling and road-holding
Falcon ever built.” The 220 kW TS50, TE50 and TL50
are released in 1998. In 2001, the Ford Mustang is
launched in Australia thanks to a full right-hand
drive conversion program by Tickford. The 250 kW 5.6-litre V8 AUIII T-Series Falcon is released.

2001

Tickford Vehicle Engineering
Becomes Prodrive Automotive Technology Australia

Prodrive buys Tickford Vehicle Engineering. The
Australian operation becomes Prodrive Automotive
Technology Australia (PATA). The new company
establishes Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV, Ford
Australia’s performance-vehicle division) in a 51%
(Prodrive) / 49% (Ford) joint venture.

The BA Falcon-based FPV GT is released in 2003.
The “Gull” engine is developed for the Falcon XR6
Turbo. The FPV turbo F6 range is updated to 270
kW in 2005. Mazda Australia uses PATA’s technical
support to produce their turbocharged MX-5 SP.
PATA builds Toyota’s TRD-enhanced Aurion and
HiLux models in Australia.

2010

The FPV-Developed "Miami"
Engine Is Revealed

FPV unveils its supercharged Miami V8 petrol
engine, designed for use in Australia’s FPV Falcon-
based model range. Based on the 5.0-litre quad-
cam 32-valve Ford “Coyote” V8, the Prodrive-developed Miami engine develops up to 483 kW and 753 Nm thanks to its motorsport-derived engineering program and forced induction system.

2012

Prodrive Automotive Technology Australia Becomes Premcar

A change in Australian ownership sees Prodrive
Automotive Technology Australia become Premcar.

The 335 kW FG Falcon-based FPV GT is released in
2012 and the 351 kW FPV GT-F follows in 2014.

In 2016, the 325 kW FG-X Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint is released along with the XR8 Sprint range. Both are snapped up by car enthusiasts and collectors.

In 2015 Premcar co-develops its first cutting-edge helicopter for a major corporation. Premcar begins its extensive defence industry work.

2017

From Local To Global: RLE
International Joins Premcar

Leading global automotive engineering firm RLE
International joins Premcar.

Based in Germany and with facilities throughout
the UK, Europe, the USA, China and India, RLE
International establishes its Australian
operations with Premcar, giving Premcar access
to its vast global new-vehicle engineering
and car-making resources, as well as its
2,300-strong team.

2019

Nissan Teams Up With Premcar

Leading global carmaker Nissan chooses Premcar
to develop and build a new range-leading version
of its award-winning Navara pick-up model in Australia. Launched in 2019, the Navara N-TREK Warrior by Premcar quickly becomes popular with Australian buyers.

Its successor, the Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior by Premcar, is launched to similar acclaim in 2021. It is quickly joined by the Navara SL Warrior by Premcar in 2022, along with news by Nissan it will expand its Premcar-enhanced Warrior program to its Patrol SUV range. 

2023

New Vehicle Production Milestones

Premcar’s Engineering and Production Centre in Epping, located just outside Melbourne, produces its 5,000th new car. The milestone production number further highlights the success of Nissan’s popular Warrior by Premcar new-vehicle model series.

Demand for the Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior, SL Warrior and forthcoming Patrol Warrior sees Premcar expand to a second nearby new-vehicle Manufacturing Centre. This new factory commences operations in September. 

2023

Nissan Patrol Warrior By Premcar

The Nissan Patrol Warrior by Premcar becomes Nissan’s second Warrior-enhanced new-vehicle model series to be released in Australia. The locally-developed 4×4 SUV builds on the extensive capabilities of Nissan’s award-winning Patrol Y62 and earns critical acclaim for its on-road dynamics, off-road performance and Warrior-specific styling. 

2025
